Toscana

Tuscany is sea, mountains, countryside, spas and art. It is one of the regions most loved by foreign tourists, prolific of exceptional artistic and food and wine inspirations thanks to the dense network of Taste Routes scattered throughout the territory and masterpieces of strong international appeal, one above all Michelangelo’s David, one of the most famous sculptures in the world.

The sea boasts the presence of the seven jewel-islands of the Tuscan Archipelago (Elba, Isola del Giglio, Montecristo, Capraia, Pianosa, Giannutri and Gorgona), the beaches of Maremma, the Apuan Riviera and Argentario; nature explodes lush in Mugello, in Versilia, in Vallombrosa, on the Apennines where Abetone stands out and among the Apuan Alps, to gently slope down into the relaxing landscapes of the hills where Chianti is produced, but not only.

There are the Pisan hills, the San Miniato hills, the Val di Sieve and the Val di Cecina, there is the Val d’Orcia, the Val di Chiana, the Orbetello lagoon and other green oases. Tuscany is relaxation that has made the history of Italian spas: from Montecatini to Chianciano, from Bagni di Lucca to the Terme di San Giuliano, the region’s spa network includes 14 cutting-edge locations for stays focused on the health of body and soul.

Cradle of the Italian Renaissance, Florence alone and its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, would be enough to retrace the history of the entire country. But unique treasures are scattered throughout the region’s other cities of art, from Lucca to Livorno, from Siena to Arezzo, from Pisa to Massa-Carrara, without forgetting the smaller villages with medieval charm and the fortified citadels scattered throughout the territory.

Palio di Buti

The Palio di Buti represents for the people of Buti the most important event of the year, an event experienced with great passion, dedication and joy.
More and more tourists come to Buti, curious to discover the uses and customs of this festival that has its roots in the distant 17th century, when the dedication of the town’s stables on the day of Sant’Antonio Abate, protector of animals, represented an important religious ceremony in the context of our peasant economy.
Until the end of the 1950s, it was the horses of our area that, after the blessing, were launched into the race by their respective owners. Currently, however, we can boast of the quality of our horses that are chosen among the most prestigious in Italy.

Palio di Siena

The Palio di Siena is not an event revived and organized for tourism purposes: it is an integral part of the city’s history and of the Sienese people in the many aspects in which it has diversified over the centuries.
The Contrade and the Palio have ancient origins: the first documents that mention the Contrade date back to 1208 while only in 1281 is there mention of “Expenses for the Feast of Santa Maria in August”. The Contrade as we know them today did not participate in this ceremony and the first current names only appeared at the end of the fifteenth century until they all appeared in 1546.
Since ancient times, horse races were frequent in the streets of the city but only in 1633 is the first Palio run by the Contrade in the Piazza with horses documented.
Since then, the Palio has always been held, except for the Napoleonic interruption of 1801, those of 1848, 1859 and 1866 for the Wars of Independence, then the interruptions from 1915 to 1918 for the Great War and from 1940 to 1944 for the Second World War, and finally in 2020 and 2021 for the pandemic. The Palio is run twice a year: on July 2nd in honor of the Madonna di Provenzano and on August 16th in honor of the Madonna Assunta.
